Want to use my photos? Great! I get a lot of questions about this. Please keep these things in mind:
Good photography costs a lot of money to produce.
I sometimes provide photos free of charge* to athletes out of good will, as an act of service or community-building, or as part of an arrangement with an event sponsor. When that is the case, images can be used by athletes for their personal use as long as photography credit is given to me (on IG, that includes a tag on the image and a mention in the caption). Any other use (e.g., athlete advertising a product) is not authorized, even if someone possesses a .jpeg file. If I see my images used in a way that violates this permission, I will ask for compensation and/or removal.
For publications, brands, teams, sports management agencies, and other organizations who want to use my images, please contact me directly. You should be prepared to compensate me for my time and/or expenses incurred to take the photo and prepared to sign a contract with me. If you use my photography without my permission, you are subject to my current unauthorized photo use rate and will be invoiced for that fee.
*For those who have been gifted photos for personal use, if you feel inclined to give back or say thank you, please consider purchasing a physical print from me or contributing to the costs I incur, some of which may be invisible to you. These costs include my time, travel costs, equipment purchase, insurance, hosting and domain fees, storage fees, software license fees, accounting services, continuing education, and the countless hours and years I have put into learning how to take and edit photos. In this sense, it is almost impossible to quantify how much money it takes to produce a timeless image.
If you have questions about this topic, it is always better to contact me first, prior to using my images.
Thank you for your understanding and support of my work!
